Virtual Private Server FAQs

What type of server will my VPS be hosted on?
Our typical VPS server configuration are:
1. Two Quad Core Intel Xeon CPU's
2. 32GB DDR2 Ram
3. 1.2 Terabye HD array (Raid5)
4. Dual Gigabit ethernet
How long does it take to set up a virtual server?
Typically, 1-4 hours. This primarily depends on the time of day you place your order and any customization you might need.
What types of billing options are available?
For monthly services, we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Paypal, Wire Transfer, eCheck, or check. We can either charge a credit card each month or send you an invoice. Your account can be setup to be billed monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Accounts billed yearly will receive one month of free service.
How many ip addresses can I get with my VPS?
Each VPS plan has a specific allotment of ip addresses. You can add additional ip addresses at any time at a monthly cost of $1 per ip address.
What software can I install on my virtual server?
There are no limits. You can install any software you might need.
Do I have full control over my virutal server?
Yes, you have complete control over your server with full root access and adminitrative rights. You can install any software, add users, or doing anything you want. You also can reboot your server and modify the operating system to suit your needs.
What are your contract terms? How long do I have to sign up for?
All Triple8 services are month to month. You can cancel at anytime. See our Terms of Service for more information.
Are VPS servers protected by a firewall?
Yes, all Triple8 VPS servers are protected by a hardware firewall. If you need specific ports open for your application, we can do this for you.
Do you offer any website control panel software with a VPS?
Yes, we offer Plesk and Cpanel control panel software with each virtual server. Depending on the VPS plan, there may be an additional charge for the control panel software. Also, this control panel software should be installed when the server is set up. Because Plesk and Cpanel can consume quite a bit of system resources, we do not recommend installing them on your VPS unless you have a specific need for the software.
Are there any software programs that do not run well on VPS servers?
Yes, some programs do not run well (or sometimes not at all) on VPS servers. These are usually programs that use a lot of ram (MS SQL Server) or very busy database servers. Also, any program that needs to control or manipulate the NIC card (such as proxy servers or VPN software) most likely will not work. If you have an application that uses alot of CPU, RAM, or HD read/writes, in most cases these will not perform well in a VPS environment. A dedicated server may be a better option.
